Okay, I want my placenta encapsulated...now what?
After you birth, please contact me via phone call or text to let me know! I will come to where you are (home or hospital) within 12 hours to pick up your placenta. Please have your placenta placed in the refrigerator or on ice within 3-4 hours after birth to maintain freshness. I will bring a cooler with ice packs to pick up your placenta and take it home to start processing it! I will then deliver your placenta capsules to you within 48-72 hours. (Tinctures must steep for 6-7 weeks and will be delivered when ready). Payment is due in full at the time I pick up your placenta.
You can contact me before your birth to let me know you plan to utilize my services or you can just call me after birth!
I advise my clients to tell their provider in advance that you want to keep your placenta to have it encapsulated. It also helps to include it in your birth plan! It can be helpful to have your doula or another support person take on the role of "placenta care taker" to make sure it is stored appropriately in due time after birth and to contact me.
Unfortunately, if your placenta is sent to pathology, I am not able to prepare it for consumption as it may have come into contact with chemicals that make it inedible. If you have HIV, hepatitis or any other bloodborne illness, I am not able to personally prepare your placenta, but I can offer you instructions and over the phone guidance so you can prepare your own!
What if I don't live in Michigan?
I am happy to provide mail-order placenta encapsulation services to people who live in an area where placenta encapsulation is not available. Though this might sound silly to people who live in a major metropolitan area where there an abundance of birth-related services, the fact of the matter is that many people do not live in such an area. If you live in an area where a placenta encapsulator is not available and you do not wish to prepare your own placenta, please contact me and we can discuss the arrangements. Client will cover all costs associated with shipping the placenta and finished capsule.
